The small group discussion is one of the essential ingredients on every Student Alpha Course. It’s where the guests get to voice their opinions and listen to each other. We believe that every guest's opinion matters even if we don't agree with them. It's our job to do our best to make sure every guest is given the space and freedom to say what they think and shouldn't get shut down by a clanging one liner.

Here are 5 top tips for hosting a successful small group discussion:

  1. Hosts are there to facilitate the discussion
  2. Remember the guests have already heard a talk!
  3. Look for opinions not answers
  4. Value every opinion
  5. Don't be afraid to lose the argument

For more information about small groups, and lots of other training, then check out the Student Alpha Leader Training talks that are available from studentalpha.org when you register your course.
